Girl: (smiles)
Guy: You know that I don’t have a crush on you.
Girl: Of course.
Guy: Good. Well… you were right… I like them both. One, I’d rather have never discovered. The other – well, you know how that is – it’s awful pretending not to be interested.
Girl: Then why pretend?
Guy: Just afraid, I guess.
Girl: And you call me naive?!
Guy: It’s not the same thing!
Girl: (smiles)

girL: So you’re saying that they can do whatever they want?!
guY: No… you’re thinking about it the wrong way. You don’t define boundaries for others! Boundaries exist only for you.
L: I don’t understand.
Y: What I’d like to do is to sit next to you and snuggle up, because you look cuddly and I’m cold!
L: What?! Heck! No!
Y: Exactly! I’ve set a boundary for myself that I can’t do that. I’m not setting a boundary or a rule for you, but only for me.
L: … That still doesn’t make any sense.
Y: Yeah, that usually happens. Just give it some time.

She didn’t want him to go. He didn’t even know her name yet. And yet he’d saved them all… or almost all of them. The rest stood in a half circle around her and they were all looking at him.
His smile was crooked, it’s meaning obscure – meant to be so, she realized. He had no reason to be happy, no reason to be sad, and she’d had no reason to have said what she did.
Suddenly his smile made sense.
Glasses stood nodding next to her. He seemed to do that a lot. Both of those things. He seemed to be comforted by her presence. As though being near her would make their rather unique situation a little less muddled. He’ll have no such luck, thought Red. They’d all have to deal with it some time.
That’s why he was leaving. That’s why he had to. And that’s why she’d said what she did. He knew.
Of course he did. He’d led them here, against all odds. Odds so frightening, her hair stood on end when she was reminded of it. How he’d done it was a mystery to her. That was his story. Her own was something else…
And this is how it began…

And so it continues… ^_^

He walked up to them and said goodbye.
The final chapter in what was, undeniably, a life-changing experience. He was standing no more than a few feet away from a road buzzing with traffic, and near him were people he thought he knew better than any in his life. It didn’t matter that he didn’t know their names. They knew his, and it didn’t occur to him that they would remember it for the rest of their lives.
He’d had enough. Enough of the silence. Enough of the unexplainable. Just trying to encompass what had happened over the last hour was enough to give him a headache. He raised his head to look at them all one more time, saw himself reflected in their eyes, and turned to leave.
A hand on the shoulder stopped him.
“Remember us.”
It was Red. He didn’t have to turn around to know. He could even feel Glasses nodding, a smirk on his face as he stood next to her.
He slowly turned his head…
And smiled.
